Techno-Throb?

Section 8 - Looking From A Hilltop
Ripped from the a-side of a 12" vinyl single released on Shit Is Dope Records (SID 10015/12) in 2002 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. Anybody who has seen Section 25 live recently will realise that Blackpool's finest now adhere closer to this splendid German techno-throb monster cover version than the original eighties masterpiece. Thanks to Steve for the rip.

Always Now .....Always Contemporary

Section 25 - The Key Of Dreams
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Factory Benelux Records (FBN 14) in 1982 to high resolution 24-bit flac. Stunningly evocative piece of work or compilation of leftovers from the Always Now sessions? You decide ....I know which camp I sit with. Always Now ....Always Contemporary ...potentially a much overlooked work of genius. Self produced by the band but The Key Of Dreams borrows many of the studio techniques adopted by Always Now album producer Martin Hannett.

Section 25 - Back To Wonder

A SXXV re-rip but this time to FLAC. One of this blogs dedicated Factory followers (thanks D. from Ca) has pointed out to me that this 7" version has never resurfaced on the numerous Section 25 reissues by LTM, so here for D. and likely many others, it is.
Truly delightful and wondrous pop music on badly pressed vinyl by Factory.

Back To Wonder : ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Factory Records (FAC 68) in 1983 to lossless high quality FLAC audio.
A. Back To Wonder
B. Beating Heart

Section 25 - Looking From A Hilltop

Another slab of Factory vinyl that most should possess, but I am so pleased with my rip of my well worn 'week of release' copy, I thought I'd share it. Yeah, there was a little background vinyl rumble and a few pops and clicks (lovingly removed one at a time with good old Cool Edit) but there is so much going on in the mix on both sides of this classic, only a 32bit/48000 vinyl rip can do it justice.

Looking From A Hilltop : ripped to lossless FLAC from a 12" vinyl single released on Factory Records (FAC 108) in 1984.
A. Looking From A Hilltop (Restructure from FACT 90)
B. Looking From A Hilltop (Megamix from FAC 108A)

Larry Cassidy R.I.P.

I'm saddened to hear today that Section 25 vocalist and bass player, Larry Cassidy has passed away. The band had recently been recording a new album at West Orange of reworked versions of earlier songs which was due for release in May along with a tour.

I have followed SXXV since the early 80's and still remember rushing out to buy their seminal LP From The Hip on day of release.

In the Summer of 2006, I was lucky enough to spend an hour or so in Larry's company after the second Section 25 comeback gig in Salford. He was a truly charming man with an infectious personality and wit.

Today is a really really sad day.

Section 25 - Live in Preston 1985

Recorded direct from the mixing desk of SXXV's support slot to New Order at Preston Guildhall on November 22nd 1985.
Two tracks were licensed to LTM for a live compilation, however they couldn't get permission to release the cover of Kraftwerk's The Model.
Never mind, eh?

Setlist:
Slinky
Guitar Waltz
Crazy Wisdom
Sweet Forgiveness
The Model

These files are no longer available as James Nice from LTM has objected to this post.

Section 25 - Nature + Degree (Teaser)

Apols for the lack of recent posts due to a home move, a long needed holiday and other commitments. Most of the vinyl is still boxed up, but I will resume posting from records already digitised very soon.
For now, a sneek preview from Section 25's second comeback album Nature + Degree which is released on June 15th 2009. The last album, 2007's Part Primitiv was very much guitar driven affair, preview tracks on this release indicate a return to the electronic techno sound pioneered by SXXV 26 years ago. Vocal duties are shared with Bethany Cassidy whose voice eerily harks back to that of Larry's late wife, Jenny.

Sample - Garageland (4.36mins 256kbps)

Section 25 - SXXV:XXX

In June 2008, Section 25 played a gig at The Beat Club in their home town of Blackpool to celebrate their 30th Anniversary.
To commemerate the event a limited edition CD was given away at the gig. The CD comprised a historic soundboard recording from another Blackpool show in 1980 and an hour long 2008 BBC Radio interview.
As a bonus the CD also featured some "enhanced" extras - a seperate folder containing MP3 tracks from their 1981 John Peel Session, demo mixes and out-takes from recent studio sessions. Also in this folder was a MP3 rip of the Section 8 single Off The Hilltop which was coincidentally a cover version of SXXV's Looking From A Hilltop.

Only 30 copies were produced!!!

The CD audio comprises a full-length interview with the band which was first broadcast on BBC Radio Lancashire 13 June 2008.

Live at Scamps Disco, Blackpool, 5th September 1980, supporting a fledgling New Order:
1. Haunted
2. Charnel Ground

The separate MP3 folder on the disc contains eleven MP3 tracks as follows:

3. Babies In The Bardo (Radio 1 Peel Session)

The limited edition cd was given away free at The Beat Club in Blackpool on 20 June 2008. All copies were signed by the band and it was limited to a run of only 30 copies.

The actual disc is an enhanced cd combining a regular cd audio track with mp3 content.

Notes: Tracks 1-3 from Radio 1 Peel session recorded Maida Vale 1980. Tracks 7 and 8 recorded and mixed Sawmill Studios 2005 additional vocals on track 7 by Caroline Murphy). Tracks 9, 10 & 11 recorded and mixed T.O.D. Studios 2008.
