Always the bridesmaids.....

The June Brides - No Place Called Home
Ripped from a 12" vinyl EP released on In Tape Records (ITTI 024) in 1985 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. To end my run of In Tape releases, here's The Junes Brides first single for the label. Considering they only released four singles and one album, The June Brides were a pivotal element in the C86 genre (coincidentally the year they split). We all loved them (didn't we?) ...but we all know Phil couldn't sing for toffee and didn't really care. Indie-pop with trumpets ...you just can't go wrong!

Always The Bridesmaid....

The June Brides - This Town E.P.
Further proof that the lack of singing ability to should never stop anybody fronting a band (though I've always wished Bobby Gillespie and Tim Burgess hadn't).  The Phil Wilson fronted June Brides did well to avoid the C86 tag, probably because they were from London and not Manchester or Glasgow. Also history says they declined to contribute to the NME tape which launched a genre. Very few of their ilk successfully incorporated the trumpet, and with a unique charm, The June Brides did it very well. This is my favourite moment from their limited back catelogue released on the wonderful In Tape records label. Phil has recently got the band back together with new releases and gigs to show those young upstarts from the 2012 generation how it's done properly.
