Set The Tone were a Glaswegian pop-funk-dance quartet formed by former Simple Minds drummer, Kenny Hislop (also of The Skids and Slick). They were snapped up by Island Records on 1982, but after no mainstream success with this single, the follow-up
Rap Your Love and an album
Shifting Air Affair, Set The Tone were dropped in 1983.
With a sound close to Manchester's Quando Quango, Set The Tone were deemed way ahead of their time, mixing electro-pop melodies with hard funk rhythms. The AA-side Let Loose is a 9 minute drum machine and funk bass workout mixed with dubby riffs and keyboard stabs .....superb stuff!
If anybody has a copy of the album for ripping, please get in touch.
