For Another Moss Side Night

Yargo - Bodybeat
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Bodybeat Records (BODY 002) in 1987 to high resolution and ever so slightly well worn 24-bit flac audio. Yargo were one of the most underrated Manchester bands of the mid to late 1980s. Vocalist Basil Clarke joined up with Tony Burnside (guitar), Paddy Steer (bass) and Phil Kirby (drums) - the later two also played together in Biting Tongues - to create a unique style mixing soul, blues, jazz, reggae and pop. Early releases on their own Bodybeat label included the superb Bodybeat album produced by Chris Nagle.
Live and studio contributors included fellow Manc luminaries, Denise Johnson, Andy Diagram and the late Beverley MacDonald. The band signed to FRRRR/London Records for 1989’s Communicate and failed to break through. Given that Madchester had broken out in 1987, it is unfortunate that the sheer class of the Yargo sound was never recognised, however, unlike the floppy fringed & doped-up bands who were the Madchester scene, Yargo had a timeless quality which stands up so well over 25 years later.
