Matt Johnson - Burning Blue Soul
Ripped from an original pressing of a vinyl album released on 4AD Records (CAD 113) in 1981 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. The psychedelic cover merely hints at the contents of Johnson's mind when he recorded Burning Blue Soul. If you just listen in passing you only hear the abstract and the experimental, you miss the complex structure and the clever interplay between tape loops, melody, feedback and simple synthbeats. Most (like me) would have discovered Burning Blue Soul after Soul Mining - the two are incomparable and should be never listened to during the same sitting. Wire moguls Gilbert and Lewis dabbled at the mixing desk and were likely responsible for the minimalist feel to the album. Elements of what was to become The The are there to hear, as is the influence of the occasional mind altering substance.
