Art For Art's Sake

The Post Romantic Empire Album
Ripped from a double vinyl album and 7" single set released on Our Sweetest Songs (OSS 001) in 2013 to high resolution 24-bit flac. It is time to drop the tempo for a short while. From one or the most beautifully package releases in modern times comes The Post Romantic Empire Album. Assembled in Italy from mostly British talent in hand-made sleeves, this collection of work is worth tracking down for any serious vinyl enthusiast. There are just 1001 copies circulating out there.
Whilst it could well be deemed quite pretentious in places, the assembled artists recreate the strange beautiful aura you only ever used to find on the works of This Mortal Coil and such like. There are many involved but Peter Hook, Dave Barbarossa, Annabella Lwin, David Tibet, Larry Cassidy and Baby Dee will be familiar to most, but it is the vision of our Italian hosts which has to be commended. There are many highlights, but for this old boy, there is the moment at 11:52 into side D1 when Peter Hook's familiar six string opens for the ghostly poetic voice of the late Larry Cassidy reciting Love Will Tear Us Apart as a poem. It feels as if Cassidy is on the room standing right next to you - Let me know how the hairs on the back of your neck react to this. Any crackle you hear is just the dust in the air settling as the record spins.
