Space Monkeys - The Daddy Of Them All
Anthony H. Wilson's Factory Too label could never have followed in the illustrious footsteps of the original Factory label. Two classic Durutti Column albums were lost among a mixed bunch of post-Madchester wannabees. I bought the sampler for purely sentimental reasons and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't appreciate much on the label. Hopper seemed to be the only new band worthy of attention, but Wilson's inability to hype talent cost them a fruitful career.
Indie pop dance nutters Space Monkeys came my way courtesy of a 50 pence bargain bucket, and after just a few plays in fifteen plus years (it was in a bundle I had ready for a local charity shop), I gave it another listen just last week. Surprisingly and though it epitomised everything I despised about nineties music, I actually enjoyed it. So, The Daddy Of Them All has been saved from another bargain bucket (for now!) and gets to sit alongside the New FADS, World Of Twist and Paris Angels in my collection.
Ripped from a compact disc album released on Factory Too Records (FACD 2.25) in 1997 to high quality lossless flac audio. I have removed the seventy or so annoying silent tracks added by Factory Too at the end of the cd.
