Airstream - Ricky Tick
Airstream by all accounts were an indie-rock band from the early nineties who managed just one album on One Little Indian Records. There were five singles from it, all of which were heavily remixed for the dance floor, and subsequently they have had to endure the dance act tag. Their coup was to get prog-psychedelia legend Steve Hillage in to produce their album at about the same time as he was dabbling in the dance sounds of System 7 and working with The Orb.
Although the basis of the Airstream sound is very much set in the early nineties, they have the added bonus of some wonderful psyche guitar, freaky beats and what must be the Hillage touch, seventies-style AOR vocal chorus melodies! I doubt whether anybody else had tried this and I remember being blown away by it at the time. On re-listening just this week, I have enjoyed it even more - it is really quite a unique sound, if you have never heard Airstream now is your chance, plus everybody needs to hear the magnificent Crush which closes the album.
Ripped from a compact disc album released on One Little Indian Records (TPLP 36CD) in 1992 to high quality lossless FLAC.
