In The Nursery - Sonority

Even more complex than the earlier recordings used on Prelude, the Sonority tracks were more choral and symphonic adding a dramatic and at times, gothic sound. Not everybody's cup of tea I am sure. Released on Death In June's New European Recordings, In The Nursery were in danger of obtaining a neo-folk tag and the consequential allegations of right-wing fixation, but thankfully they quickly moved on.

These tracks were eventually included on the CD version of Prelude but as I have the original vinyl EP, these are analogue rips.

In The Nursery - Prelude

I picked up this vinyl album off the back of their early Sweatbox releases. Though known ultimately for their epic dark ethereal electronic soundscapes, this compilation reflects on the band's original percussive work from 1983. Originally influenced by bands like Joy Division, Clock DVA, Bauhaus and Death In June, In The Nursery used snare, bass and horns, dressed in grey shirt chic with industrial, military precision. Tracks like Patter add much more with jingly guitars, owing a great deal to 1979-era ACR. I also have a copy of Twins which will feature in a future post.
