Some Arcane Delights

Dead Can Dance - Garden Of The Arcane Delights
Originally released as a 12" vinyl EP on 4AD Records (BAD 408) in 1984. Ripped here from a replica package Japanese SACD to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. I've ripped my vinyl copy and featured it here a few times before, so thought this would make a nice change. Lovingly remastered (that is not brickwalled)  for the Japanese market, the debut DCD extended player sounds fantastic to these ears. Enjoy!

Dead Can Dance - Garden Of The Arcane Delights

Once upon a time, Dead Can Dance were a post-punk band heavily influenced by Joy Division and The Cure. Early live shows and their first self-titled album on 4AD bore this out, but as lead singer Brendan Perry's then girlfriend Lisa Gerrard gained in influence in the band, their sound transformed with more ethnic rhythms and they developed into a major force in experimental world music.
This is their only single (more an EP) which snuck out shortly after the debut album and bridges the gap, like the missing link between Joy Division & The Cocteau Twins, from the old to the new Dead Can Dance. There is no doubt that both Perry and Gerrard have amazing voices, Perry sounding very much like Scott Walker, whereas Gerrard has an amazing vocal range, very well documented on her highly successful film score work. The problem was that they were just too pretentious for their own good.

Garden Of The Arcane Delights : ripped from a 12" vinyl EP (excuse the occ. crackle) released on 4AD Records (BAD 408) in 1984 to high quality lossless FLAC audio.
