From A Bang To A Whimper

New Fads - Love It All
By 1995, New Fast Automatic Daffodils were gone and Love It All is where it all ended. Sadly, they were not to depart on a high and there seemed to be no real reason as to why they failed to build on the massive sound of Body Exit Mind. There are a few good ideas on Love It All, but by now the New Fads had ceased to evolve and everything was becoming very formulaic. If you love the Fads, then it is likely you will find bits and pieces to like here but imho many tracks lack imagination and drift off into mediocrity and safety, and as a whole this album just disappoints - especially when compared to the first two albums. My cds of Pigeonhole and Body Exit Mind have been played to death over the decades, Love It All was filed away shortly after first listen and has sat on the shelf for nearly twenty years.

Ripped from a compact disc album released on Play It Again Sam Records (BIAS 285CD) in 1994 to high quality lossless flac audio.

At the end of 1991, the New FADS cranked up the levels adding bolder, heavier edges to their Mancunian fuzz-funk. The opening bars of All Over My Face borrow heavily from Slash's Sweet Child O'Mine, and the subsequent Body Exit Mind LP was louder, much louder than anything else that the New FADs' baggie peers where ever capable of. These three singles adequately evidence the band's transition from jerky indie-pop-funk to a heavier and fuller sound, and although my copy of It's Not What You Know has deteriorated with age and wear, I've persevered and cleaned it to a reasonable standard.
As always, Andy Spearpoint has much to say - everybody should listen closely and take time to comprehend his unique social ironies and commentaries, he is an unsung lyrical genius. Stockholm is just quite simply a wonderful single, which never ever got the deserved praise in 1992.

Men Of High Quality

New Fast Automatic Daffodils - Peel Sessions
Jump forward ten years from Don't Heal. New FADS are like the bastard sons of Biting Tongues. They too produced jerky punk-funk of the highest quality, with Andy Spearpoint's crazed lyrics twisted around distorted guitars, percussion beats and funky bass. A perfect tonic for the baggy beats which Manchester had become so well known during the madchester days.

Ripped from a compact disc released on Strange Fruit (SFPMACD 203) in 1991 to high quality lossless FLAC audio.
