Worldbackwards - Worldbackwards
Re-ripped from a vinyl album released on Illuminated Records (JAMS 9) in 1981 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. I gather some of you may have missed this when first posted a few years ago. I've decided to attempt a higher quality re-rip and I'd say I am pleased with the results. Here's what I wrote first time around....
Incredibly ignored by all when it first came out, the only album (proper) by Worldbackwards is now revered as a rare early synthwave gem. There is much more to this album than just its low-fidelity roots - when you consider that it was released in 1981 when the genre was still technically finding it's feet, the experimental elements of Flesh mix-up post-punk and early industrial influences really well on moody stand out tracks such as Time Lag Zero, (Leaving Me) Now and the cheerful Depression Flies Away. This is a record which ticks a lot of boxes and can sit proudly along with the early works of Cabaret Voltaire, Human League, New Order, 23 Skidoo and A Certain Ratio. Many other bands had already experimented with tape loops, synths and early electronica, but Worldbackwards were brave enough to add conventional instrumentation, horns and dub bass lines. They were more diverse than peers like Young Marble Giants and less poppy than Drinking Electricity. Worldbackwards also self-released a number of C60 cassette albums which I have never heard, but would really love to.
