In Search Of Perfection

Perfect Vision - Tongues Out
On previous pages I have covered the youthful sound of East Anglia, usually focusing on the pop-punk-funk sound of Norwich and it's various influential acts. Perfect Vision were not from Norwich, they were from Cambridge (which is on the way to Norwich), but did release this fine slab of plastic on Norwich's Backs Records.
Perfect Vision developed a jerky and arty new wave sound, mixing synth-pop with grinding guitars and pop beats, Gahan-style vocals with intellectual arrangements much akin to early Wire. In fact, imagine if Wire had stayed clear of their late 70's arty-farty experimentation and developed their formative new wave edge, then this is how they would have sounded.
This mini-album snuck out in 1984 and is notable for seven exceptional songs ranging from the beautiful minimal synth of Engines and ...Like Engines, the pounding Scratch & Howl and Kick, to the complex and wonderful Damnation.
This is bloody good stuff, I don't have any of their other recordings but "Goutroy" has shared a few singles and demos on his blog here.

Ripped from a vinyl album released on Backs Records (NCH MLP 9) in 1984 to high resolution 24-bit FLAC audio.
