Two Blokes With A Drum Machine Down The Pub

Jesus Couldn't Drum - Ruttling Orange Peel And Blind Lemon Pie
More low-fidelity synthpop from JCD. The Ruttling Peel album was essentially a compilation based loosely around the first two albums, a couple of singles and a whole pile of unreleased stuff. Whereas the second album, Good Morning Mr. Square was a bit of a hash (one side was just noise and experimentation), this lovely piece of noisy plastic holds true to what Jesus Couldn't Drum were about.
Everybody will love JCD classics such as Sister Dream, Steve ...Don't Leave, the brilliant I'm A Train and Caught In A Dream. You also get the two superb flexi-disc tracks Beat The Dog and Suzie. Music lovers everywhere will cringe to the low-fi cover versions of Fireball XL-5, Captain Scarlet and Banana Splits, which sound just like two blokes playing down the pub with a Casio and a drum machine.

Ripped from a vinyl album released on Lost Moment Records (LMLP 444) to high resolution 24-bit FLAC audio.

Jesus Couldn't Drum - Er, ...Something About Cows
I've been holding back on this one for ages, for no deliberate reason, except that I do try to sync similar styles together in chains of posts. Jesus Couldn't Drum could never fit alongside any other act, so I'll inject their witty and charming products (I have the three albums) at will as we go on over the winter period.
Most of you will have have never heard of them, but I'd guess those who have will be rather chuffed to see them here.
The best place to start is the flexi-disc (which is how I discovered them). These were given away by indie music retailers in 1985 with a magazine as a promotional tool for this album, though none of the tracks on the flexi feature on the LP. I picked it up in orange and also have a black copy with my album. The two catchy synthpop ditties on the flexi are just damn good fun, with amusing commentary before, between and after the tracks.
JCD were from Luton (hardly a productive hotbed of the British music scene), and their sound is loosely based around low-fi, synth-filled pop songs about seagulls, lettuce and talking to birds. All very silly and very English, but so very important. There were a couple of early singles but the albums really reflect their story. The band also found time to write some proper songs, such as the sad Orange Leaves, the ironic and catchy Are You Laughing At Me? and Lost At Sea, and the charm of Cold Without You.

Ripped from a flexi-disc relased on Lost Moment Records (LMF 004) in 1985 to lossless FLAC audio (sorry but a flexi just can't justify a 24-bit rip).
