Dojo'ish

Dojoji - Dojoji
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Plexus Records (KMH 7091284) in 1984 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. I posted a borrowed rip of this years ago but subsequently have managed to acquire a vinyl copy of my own for an upgrade. Loose connection to Quando Quango time - Dojoji were nothing to do with Donald Johnson, but were in fact a Dutch post-punk funk band whose only album was produced by former Quando drummer (and brother of Gonnie), Reinier Rietveld. Interestingly Au Pairs front woman Lesley Woods was drafted in as vocalist. The result is some damn good Benelux percussive indie-funk which fits snuggly between what the Quando's and ACR were doing at the time.... plus it's miles better than that bloody awful Surprize EP on Factory (which I am currently resisting the need to rip).

First of all this isn't my rip. A contributor posted a link in one of this years Au Pairs posts - Lesley Woods contributes her voice on three of the five tracks on this Benelux funk mini album, and its likely most ESWA readers would have missed out on it. It is pretty damn fine indie funk with Afribeat overtones, and should be enjoyed by all. If only the Quando Quango album had been as good as this.
