Plasticland - Wonder Wonderful Wonderland

Here's the second album from kitsch Milwaukee paisley-popsters Plasticland. If anything, Wonder Wonderful Wonderland shows greater maturity and more complex arrangements with plenty more feedback & fuzz than the simplistic debut featured here a few months back.

Flower Scene was a fantastic single and should have seen the band breakthrough, but its limited home town distribution likely held them back. Thankfully Enigma Records picked them up for Europe following the original Bam Caruso UK licensing deal. Groovy!

Plasticland - Plasticland

Out of Milwaukee came Plasticland who built up a credible eighties garage psyche-pop following with their early singles on the Scadillac and Pink Dust labels. In 1985, Bam-Caruso licensed their debut self-titled album for a UK release and here it is. The paisley underground scene had burgeoned in California at the time, and although regularly thought to be part of it, Plasticland actually took their direction from across the Atlantic and the original British psyche bands, and then layered it with fuzz guitars.

Stand outs on this album are Her Decay, The Garden In Pain, Elongations, Posing For Pictures and the single Pop! Or Drops, most of which rarely run to two minutes a track.

There was a follow-up Wonder Wonderful Wonderland on Enigma, which I have and will clean up to rip for a future post. In 2006 Rykodisc compiled a best of..  on cd titled Make Yourself A Happening Machine. Groovy!
