Factory Folk

To Hell With Burgundy - Earthbound

The autumnal sleeve by Manchester's Grand Central Design hints at what this record is about, the title Earthbound tells you that this isn't your usual Factory product. At the height of an e-fueled Madchester, Factory Records slipped out To Hell With Burgundy. As a remedy to the baggy beats of Happy Mondays, Wendys and Northside along came these English acoustic folkies.
I suggest folk is just one of the elements here. Yes, the overall tone is very English and at times highly traditional, yet the lush acoustic melodies intertwine with influences of flamenco, Dylan and Morricone. Lovers of good catchy pop tunes will enjoy the opener of side B, Go which was eventually to be self-released a few years later. Factory were to preview the album with Who Wants To Change The World as a single, whereas Go would have been a far better choice.

Ripped from a vinyl album released on Factory Records (FACT 217) in 1989 to high resolution 24-bit audio.
