Full Rotations

Repetition - A Will To Win
Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on Red Flame Records (RF 1213) in 1982 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. Whereas the early Crepescule singles featured here a few weeks a go were dour (but good) post-punk, the follow up and final contribution from Repetition, A Will To Win was some fine cheery synth-pop. The two b-side tracks are better -  drum machine driven minimalist tunes, featuring Sarah Gregory (Glen's wife) who then went on to front Allez Allez, on vocals.

Go On Then!

Allez Allez - African Queen
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Kamera Records (KAM 007) in 1982 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. I featured the two excellent Marine singles on Les Disques du Crépuscule a few weeks ago. Lead singer Marc went his own way shortly afterwards so the rest of the band hooked up with Repetition front-girl Sarah Osborne to become Allez Allez. From whom we got two splendid albums and a rush of pretty good singles. As you would expect given the band's heritage you get some fun post-punk funk a la Au Pairs, Maximum Joy etc etc. Virgin Records released a more commercial second album a few years later which may appear here if there is interest. For those who want to hear more from these chaps, there is a fine compact disc over on LTM featuring a fine compilation of their works. Get that CD here.

A1 Turn Up The Meter
A2 Marathon Dance
A3 She's Stirring Up
B1 Allez Allez
B2 African Queen (Pour La Grace)

Re-Repetition

Repetition - A Still Reflex
Re-ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Les Disques du Crepescule (TWI 012) in 1982 to high resolution 24-bit lossless FLAC audio.Time to revisit Repetition and re-rip to a higher quality again! I lost my original rips in an HD crash so thought now would be a good time to re-do them in 24-bits, Repetition were among the first artists to release product on Les Disques du Crepescule after being spotted by Anik Honore. The High Wycombe quintet released two 7" singles on the Belgian label in 1981. The first single A Still Reflex featured Sarah Osbourne on vocals, and is a minimal dark affair, much alike the work of Crispy Ambulance. It was recorded at Spaceward Studios in Saffron Walden and produced by New Order manager Rob Gretton. The flip Fade Out is better with some great guitar riffs and washes of string-like synth. To confuse, the single sleeve refers to The Still Reflex, whereas the label indicates A Still Reflex.

I no longer have my tape rips of their Peel Session. They were lost in the same HD crash, so please if any blog follower has them from my original post, I for one would be chuffed to have them back.

A1 A Still Reflex
B1 Fade Out

Repetition - A Full Rotation
Re-ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Les Disques du Crepescule (TWI 031) in 1981 to high resolution 24-bit lossless FLAC audio.Sarah was replaced by Steve Musham on vocals and the band turned the corner with the superb A Full Rotation. This second single oozes mock indie-disco mixed with minimalist synths, dulcet vocals and a toe tapping percussion outro. Quite unusual, very wonderful and very much overlooked. The Body Cries on the reverse is more good old minimal dark waviness.

Repetition - Peel Session 1981
Repetition also recorded a session for BBC Radio's John Peel Show in August 1981. None of the tracks were ever to be commercially released, yet show the band's sound developing and maturing further. Listening to them some thirty odd years on, there are obvious comparisons to bands such as Comsat Angels and The Chameleons, and it is clear they had begun to improve as musicians.

From an old tape donated by a blog follower, I've included the four broadcast session tracks ripped to lossless flac. These are from FM radio originally transmitted on the 17th August 1981, so expect a little hiss in places.

1. Carnival
2. Autumn
3. On The Other Side
4. Enchantment
