The Chameleons split into two following the death of Tony Fletcher. The twin guitars of Dave Fielding and Reg Smithies went on to form psychedelic indie fuzz trio The Reegs, whereas Mark Burgess and John Lever became The Sun And The Moon. To many the magic was gone as the creative accord of The Chameleons had become diluted and Burgess struggled to replace the intricacy and power of Fielding and Smithies. The resulting Sun And Moon album is a great record but it disappoints after the sheer energy in the three Chameleon albums. The Burgess lyrics were always complex and deep, however now they ventured off into progressive and conceptual prose. The rest of the band clearly do their best to reign him back into alternative rock, but you always feel that left to his own devices he could easily become a 'Gabriel out of Genesis' or a 'Fish out of Marillion'. That being said, Peace In Our Time is a work of sheer excellence. Thanks to Steve for his rips.
