Simon Topping - Prospect Park
Simon Topping left A Certain Ratio in early 1983 as the band veered to a more jazz-funk sound. Topping wanted to persue his love of latin percussion and temporarily relocated to New York to hone his skills. Originally the lead singer of ACR, he took a more backward role as the band progressed, though his trumpet and congas could be heard on all ACR tracks up until his departure
On Factory, he was to reappear as a guest musician playing trumpet on The Durutti Column's important Another Setting LP and live on percussion in a Granada TV studio with 52nd Street (and a few live gigs) and eventually he re-emerged as a full-time member of Quando Quango before that band morphed into T-COY. Topping also performed live with local Manc latin percussionists Apitos. Topping has recently appeared onstage with ACR again, taking up vocals again on two tracks during the band's recent anniversary gigs.
This 1985 12" EP was released on Factory Benelux and proved very difficult to track down, as so few were pressed. These three latino-jazz tracks are musically very good, however at the time they had no audience.
Ripped from a 12" vinyl EP released on Factory Benelux (FBN 41) in 1985 to high resolution 24-bit FLAC audio.
