Hick Wap Huh?

The Fall - The Man Whose Head Expanded
You'd guess from the cover that Smith has written about himself? Was it the powders, pills & potions, was it the new found fame, or was it the fact he had just married Brix? I dunno. To end my run of Fall posts, one of their finest moments, and a high that they were never to achieve again in my opinion. Sounds like a load of hick wap huh?

Ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Rough Trade Records (RT 133) in 1983 to high quality lossless FLAC audio, packed with lovely high resolution scans.

Songs About Trucking ....and Football

The Fall - Kicker Conspiracy
This post seems appropriate in the week following the UK government's admittance of serious cover-ups in the wake of the Hillsborough tragedy. When we consider other tragic incidents at football matches (Heysel and Bradford) there was clearly something wrong with British football. It is so sad that it took three major losses of life to kick the authorities into action, though we now know their first priority was to cover-up their own failings (for some 24 years!).
Back to the music, this is a splendid double 7" pack released on Rough Trade well before any of the footie tragedies. Kickers were also a popular brand of footwear worn by scallies at the time, so Smith's injection of double irony is excellent. Container Drivers is the best song about trucking ever recorded, period.

Ripped from a double 7" pack released on Rough Trade Records (RT 143) in 1983 to high quality lossless FLAC audio packed with a full set of high resolution scans.

You Don't Have To Be Weird To Be Wired

The Fall - Totally Wired
This classic single by The Fall gets the full ESWA treatment and bounces of your stereo with a lovely (if ever so slightly crackly) vinyl rip. Every home should have this already, but what the hell, it would be a shame to miss it out during the current run of Fall posts. Just two more to come for now, can you guess what they are?

Ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Rough Trade Records (RT 056) in 1980 to high quality lossless FLAC audio, packed with scans.
A. Totally Wired
B. Putta Block

Do You Know What You Look Like?

The Fall - Look Know
Marc Riley joins M.E.S. on vocals poking fun at men's new wave and new romantic trends in the early eighties, "With all the fashions you filched off faggots.." wouldn't get much airtime today, "Do you know what you look like, before you go out, look (k)now!" I don't think The Fall ever played Devilles?
Smith a.k.a Happy Harry on I'm Into CB is hilarious -  we forget people did used to buy CB radios and broadcast from home, even though they never had a car, let alone a lorry. (More Smith trucking tunes soon).

Ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Kamera Records (ERA 004) in 1982 to high quality lossless FLAC audio.
A. Look, Know
B. I'm Into C.B.

Elastic Plastic

The Fall - How I Wrote Elastic Man
Smith takes a pop at journalists and writers (hence the crap reviews at the time) in one of the weaker early Fall singles to that annoying pub rock beat which ruined a good few Fall tunes. City Hobgoblins sounds like  a witty subtle dig at Manchester City Council.

Ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Rough Trade Records (TR 048) in 1980 to high quality lossless FLAC audio packed with nice high resolution scans.

Roche Rumbled

Mr Smith points an ironic finger of  mockery at legalised drug dealers and Swiss multi-national chemical group Roche AG. Ouch....rumbled! Classic Fall in a brilliant sleeve which was clearly knocked up in seconds.

Ripped from a 7" vinyl single released on Step Forward Records (SF 11) in 1979 to high quality lossless FLAC audio, packed with really nice scanned images.

It's The New Thing

The Fall - It's The New Thing
It's not music anymore, it's the new thing, Mark E. Smith's observations on an ever changing music business, show business and all things modern. Various Times is a cutting history of the human race through the eyes of a coked up Mancunian beat poet.

Ripped from a well worn 7" vinyl single released on Step Forward Records (SF 9) in 1978 to high quality lossless FLAC

Mark-E Cha-Cha

The Fall - Bingo Masters Break Out
Part one in a selection of classic Fall singles from their finest period (1978-1983) with high resolution scans and bonus vinyl rumble and crackle. To start with the debut, though true a-side Psycho Mafia and Bingo unleash pure punk energy, whereas Repetition is born out of the smoke filled, ale-stained bars and clubs in Prestwich, and is an early Smith dialogue about the music business. Psycho Mafia was also performed on the band's tv debut on So It Goes.
