Sort Sol - Marble Station
Here's early and obscure 4AD release first upped as an mp3 eons ago, so it's about time I re-ripped it losslessly. Former punks, Sort Sol from Denmark released this wonderfully moody single in the UK back in 1981 which fans of Factory Records acts such as Joy Division, The Names and Section 25 will enjoy.
A simple monotone bass line, delayed and echoed snares, and jagged riffs with doom laden, melancholy vocals. Producer Michael Ritbo has done a fine job of mimicking Martin Hannett - need I say more. This single set a standard for the band which they failed to reach in subsequent years. I have trawled through Sort Sol's lengthy back catelogue in an attempt to find other work of this standard and failed. Perhaps Marble Station was a momentary blip of genius. Maybe somebody can recommend other Sort Sol work of note.
Ripped from an original 7" single released on 4AD Records (AD 101) in 1981 to high quality lossless flac audio with all it's original surface noise.
