....somebody mentioned Mecano? I assume that the anonymous comment in another post was not referring to the tacky but popular Spanish eighties pop group. One of the early leading lights in the Benelux post-punk movement, Mecano released three very hard-to-find albums and a couple of singles in the early eighties before splitting in 1983. Despite a Dutch heritage, their sound was very British developing their own interpretations of influences such as Magazine, PIL and Wire. The first two mini-albums position well in the void between punk and new wave, the third and final Autoportrait is highly experimental and self-indulgent yet atmospheric until the closing To Life's Reunion which borrows the feel of classic early Cure bass lines.
