Clan Of Xymox - Medusa

Ripped from a compact disc album released on 4AD Records (CAD 613 CD) in 1986 to high quality lossless flac audio. The problem with Clan Of Xymox is that they wanted to be a 4AD band and deliberately shaped their sound to be what they thought a 4AD band should sound like. The dark electro sound they found for their debut was spot on however then they thought best to sound like an amalgamation of all the other artists on the label, tempering their energy accordingly. That unfortunately makes Medusa a pleasant yet unremarkable album when really it should have been a great album. Lots of lush strings can be good (and believe me there are a lot of string sounds on Medusa) and one track, the instrumental Lorrentine stands out in particular. Many will like this record, I am not slamming it, I am just saying it could have been much much better. This is a band who bowed their heads and felt it necessary to be gazing earthwards, when really they should have kept their heads up and remained true to their origins doing what they did best.

(Clan of) Xymox - Blind Hearts

Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on 4AD Records (BAD 711) in 1987 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. From the ashes of Clan Of Xymox came ...err....Xymox. Blind Hearts is a really nice dreamy goth-tinged number from our Dutch chums, but from here on they developed into a more electronic sound, growing a more dance orientated audience. This was also to be their final 4AD release.

Clan Of Xymox - A Day/Stranger

Out of Benelux came Xymox. Out of a Peel session came two great albums on 4AD and this fantastic double A-side 12" - the Goth Blue Monday. They are still around today in one format or another but have lost their direction & importance after many splits & fractures (I think they are no longer a clan), and now just record disposable euro techno. The first two albums on 4AD are well worth hunting down.
