The Weather Prophets - Mayflower
I promised this ages ago in a comment on the excellent Vinyl 301 blog, so I am sure there are a few out there ready to relive Mayflower. WEA Records spent a small fortune getting Alan McGee to run a new division known as Elevation. It didn't last long as the plug was pulled within twelve months. For their money, WEA got Creation acts Primal Scream, Edwyn Collins and The Weather Prophets. The Jesus And Mary Chain had gone to Warners on a separate contract two years previously, but history suggests that Elevation was really a consequence of the that deal.
The album opens with Pete Astor covering himself on the classic Why Does The Rain? In addition to The Loft classic, we also get the excellent singles She Comes From The Rain, Almost Prayed and Naked As The Day You Were Born - all nicely polished by Lenny Kaye's major league production.
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Elevation Records (ELV 1) in 1987 to high quality lossless flac audio.
