Prince - Sign "O" The Times
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Paisley Park/WEA Records in 1987 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. I chose not to mark Bowie's passing back in January, and the loss of Prince only reinforces what a bad year it is already for music legends. I was working for a major music retailer back in 1987 when this album came out. It was played incessantly instore at the time, and it sold rather well. To me this was his masterpiece, this and the interesting Black Album which followed it were the little genius at his creative best .For me, The Cross is one of the purple ones finest moments.
Anyway, it transpires that Sign O The Times is no longer available, and original copies are beginning to change hands for princely sums. I am sure the executives at Warners (or whatever conglomerate they are part of now) are hastily trying to renegotiate with the Purple estate a reissue program, but until then....... btw...did anybody else get one of those black cassettes tapes illicitly handed out by by agents of Warners instore shortly after a certain album was pulled? Scandalous behaviour chaps!
