The Beginning Of The End - Funky Nassau
Another 1985 club retro-classic, this time an obscure 1971 single which had been plundered by hip-hop DJs as a break beat, The rare groove crowd also picked up up it, so it became very much sought after. Warners dragged their heals a bit and finally released it in 1987, by which time everybody was now dancing to house music. As a result it hardly sold (club goers can be a fickle lot) and most copies were destroyed. The one thing Warners/Atalantic had achieved (likely accidentally) was release a previously unheard five minute plus version of the track, and it has now become a highly valued rarity, allegedly worth considerably more these days than even the original 1971 vinyl single pressings.
