Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on Circa Records (YRT 72) in 1991 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. I have the special cd in the "Wrangler" pocket, but featured that eons ago on ESWA, perhaps I should have ripped this at the time. World Of Twist's swansong was to be this delicious slab of infectious pop. RIP Tony Ogden.

Classic World of Twist kitsch retro-psyche backed with a worthwhile note for note cover of Chairmen Of The Board's acid-funk standard Life And Death. Apologies for the background noise but this was a nastily pressed picture disc.

World Of Twist - Blackpool Tower Suite

Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on Circa Records (YRTX 55) in 1990 to high resolution 24-bit flac. I find it hard to hide my enthusiasm for the splendid World Of Twist and the three delightful singles they released in 1990/1991. Their story began quite a bit before then in the mid-eighties, but after a hard graft building a strong following, Virgin's offshoot Circa finally signed them and spectacularly failed to break them into the mainstream. If you know and loved them at the time, you'll know how much their unique blend of psychedelia and synthpop was just the perfect antidote to the mass media's new found obsession with anything in baggy flares and a mop-top. Here's their first major league single of three, The Storm in its full glory as the ten minute epic Blackpool Tower Suite.

World Of Twist - Sweets (Withdrawn Wrangler Version)

I'm told Virgin pulled this after legal approaches by a certain American jeans manufacturer (hence the covered-up letter "w" in this pic). One of my favourite bands of the nineties (there were few), World Of Twist mixed psychedelia with synth-pop and added a touch of eccentricity to taste. It's just such a pity we only got one complete album out of them. 

The denim pouch version of the Sweets single had differing tracks to the multitude of other versions peddled by Virgin/Circa and was backed by the groovy extended mixes of Sons Of The Stage and The Storm. Great stuff!
