Something Borrowed ....Something New

I have had quite a few messages from blog followers asking me what floats my boat these days. In repsonse I am preparing mixtape-style compilation for the Xmas period, but in the meantime, I thought I'd sing the praises of San Francisco band The Soft Moon. The band's debut album was released in the US last week and I'm told Rough Trade will have it for UK and European listeners by next week (end November).
I accidentally stumbled into this lot after hearing their first single Breathe The Fire via another blog and fell immediately for their wonderful dark & hypnotic retro-post-punk sound. The follow-up, Parallels is a pulsating bass driven instrumental and will blow you away. Our Belgian friends know this as dark wave, us Brits (and other followers) - just think of the experimentation of PIL, early Section 25 basslines, elements of Wire and the darkness of Joy Division all rolled into one big ball, some 30 years on.

In the US, you can buy the album on vinyl or CD from Captured Tracks
In the UK you should be able to get it soon from Rough Trade
The Soft Moon also have a MySpace previewing some tracks
There is some live footage and a few promos here
Another blog has upped an advance of the album here

More ESWA real retro vinyl rips are on the way, I promise!
