Along with blog contributors Adam and Steve, I've been plotting a Danse Society mega-post for a few weeks. Here are the majority of their early singles ripped to 24-bit from vinyl except Clock which had to be obtained from a cd source. What you get to hear is the development of commercial new-wave goth as The Danse Society regularly threatened the charts in the UK around 1984 with Heaven Is Waiting and that Rolling Stones cover. Steve has also thrown in the promo mini album distributed by Arista who had begun to license the band's own Society label. I have a couple of live shows and some radio sessions which will feature with the first two albums soon. Enjoy!

Hell's Waiting Room

The Danse Society - Heaven Is Waiting
Barnsley's goth-tinged post-punks The Danse Society had been around for a few years before Arista licensed their own Society label to give them this, their major label debut album. Ironically it was to be their last, as the band fragmented shortly after a few minor chart indentations with the album's title single and a tabla-tinged cover of 2000 Light Years From Home
Probably a bit to much synth to fit under the cold wave moniker, yet there are dark influences here from The Cure to Joy Division. There are elements on this record which were clearly picked up by later bands such as Clan Of Xymox. Come Inside, The Hurt and The Night are by a band who has obviously spent too much time listening to Closer.

Ripped From a vinyl album released on Arista Records (205 972) in 1984 to high quality lossless FLAC audio.
