The Patriots - Pharaoh's Land b/w The Chicaynes - Second Thoughts
A really clever idea by Bam-Caruso was to give two bands each one side of an album. Pennsylvania mods The Patriots had an ear for a good tune, but I struggle with the Lennon/McCartney pastiche vocals. It seems a flaw with some eighties US bands (like the recent USE post) on Bam-Caruso that they just mimicked original sixties acts.
On the other hand, British garage-mods The Chicaynes are a revelation. Further Thoughts was originally their only single in 1981, so I would guess that Second Thoughts works as a retrospective compilation. Each and every track is a winner and you are just left wanting to hear more. I noticed on another internet forum that the son of an original band member had found a tape of unreleased recordings - maybe one day that too will see the light of day. The Chicaynes are without a doubt, one of the best lost bands of their era - fantastic stuff!
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Bam-Caruso Records (MARI 057) in 1986 to high quality lossless flac.
