Red Turns To... - Deep Sleep
Re-ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on Factory Records (FAC 116) in 1985 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. 'Bout time we had this in 24-bit!
Red Turns To... were vocalist Tim Lyons and multi instrumentalist Andy Wright. In 1984, they were invited by the late great Rob Gretton to record an EP for Factory Records. They entered the studio with equipment borrowed from New Order and NO's Steve Morris on the mixing desk and programming duties.
The 12" EP was eventually released in a classic Factory F-dot sleeve and featured three great tracks:
Deep Sleep is a dreamy OMD-like pop tune with the addition of a very familiar sounding six-string bass line. Back in 1985, many actually thought the band were a Peter Hook side project after hearing the bass work.
Lost Again is New Order's Temptation all over again. This superb and catchy pop tune was likely recorded with the very same sequencers as Temptation, hence the similarity.
Wave is a rockier track featuring live drums (SM?), more guitars than synths and even though the vocals are fairly low in the mix, a memorable chorus.... Can you see through me!

As I recall, one of these tracks, "Lost Again," borrowed much of a synth line from "Love Will Tear Us Apart." And "Wave" always reminded me of early Mod.English. …Not only is this EP a pleasant memory from Factory's initial pop phase, I swear this download sounds better than my copy of the record.
